LIVING LAST SUPPER

The Tenth Annual performance of The Living Last Supper

“One of you will betray me!”

Was very well received in March/April 2007.  Stay tuned for the 2008 schedule.

Four performances are given each year during the week before Easter.  The LLS is an AOBC outreach.  It depicts Leonardo da Vinci's portrait of the Last Supper.  Attendance is usually over 800 for the week.  The disciples hold the positions in the painting until it is their turn to react to Jesus revelation that one of them is "about to betray him"   If you recently saw The Passion, the LLS play will give you further insight into the last meal Jesus had with his disciples before going to the Garden where he was betrayed. All are invited.

NOTES:

We recommend being a little early to ensure seating.

Admission is FREE.  Child care is provided downstairs.

Communion is served by the disciples near the end of the performance. Anyone who has accepted the Lord as their personal Savior may participate in communion as their own denomination allows.

From our Press Agent:

Many people are familiar with the famous painting of Leonardo da Vinci, of the Last Supper. The gospel of Matthew records that Jesus spoke of betrayal amongst his 12 disciples.  Da Vinci painted what he considered to be the most dramatic moment in the Last Supper when Jesus announced, “One of you will betray me!” The artist captured what he thought might have been the expression of each of the disciples in his painting.

At the Athol-Orange Baptist Church, a drama, “The Living Last Supper” will be presented where a group of local men will portray Jesus and the 12 apostles, bringing this painting to life. Ernest Emurian wrote the drama in 1953. He wrote what he thought might have been the thoughts of each of the disciples. In the drama, each of the disciples rises from his place and speaks, revealing his weaknesses and strengths in light of his relationship with Christ. The introspection of each disciple ends with the haunting question,” Is it I?” This repeated question will encourage the audience to examine their relationship with Christ each asking themselves “Is it I? Am I betraying Jesus?” The drama will provide a new way of seeing Christ’ sacrifice for us.

Each  year the drama will have some new faces in the cast. The members of recent casts were: Roland Raymond (James the Lesser), Steve Raymond (Matthew), Jon Gundel (Nathaniel), Brian Carey (James), Corey Ames (Andrew), Steve Adam (Thomas), Roy House (Philip), Alan Graichen (Judas), Chris Rushford (Thaddeus), Mike Matthiessen (John), Richard Duplessie (Simon the Zealot), and Chris Chiasson (Peter). Morgan Gilmore portrays Jesus. The director of the drama is Retired Colonel James Lake, who has directed the drama every year it has been presented in Athol as well as at a church in Pennsylvania.
